Dubai Road and Transport Authority (RTA), on January 19, 2024, announced the addition of Salik Gates to Dubai roads in 2024. Salik PSJC just confirmed this by announcing the addition of Salik gates at Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and the Al Safa South Toll Gate on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Authorities have confirmed the launch date. Both of the new gates will open on Sunday, November 24, 2024. You have a paid passage through the Salik toll gates on Al Khail and Sheikh Zayed Roads.
According to Mattar Al Tayer, director general, chairman of the board of executive directors of the Roads and Transport Authority:
“The traffic toll policies also encourage the public to shift towards mass transport means such as the metro, buses, marine transport, and soft mobility options.” These gates will contribute to less pollution. It will also reduce traffic on Al Khail Road by 15 % and on Al Rebat Street by 16 %.
The first gate is at the Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road. The second gate is at the Al Safa South Toll Gate, between Al Meydan and Umm Al Sheif Streets.
If you pass by both gates (north and south) in under one hour, you can save your one-time toll. You’ll only have to pay once. This is also the case for the existing gates in Al Mamzar. Each time you drive through a Salik toll gate, a toll of AED 4.00 gets deducted from your Salik balance.
What’s Salik?
Salik is Dubai’s toll system that charges drivers when they pass through toll gates on major roads. It’s completely electronic, meaning there are no booths to stop at or pay cash. Here’s how it works in simple terms:
- Tag on Your Car: When you drive in Dubai, your car needs a small Salik tag stuck on the windshield. This tag is linked to your Salik account.
- Automatic Deduction: Every time you drive through a Salik gate marked with a big sign, the system automatically deducts a fee (usually AED 4) from your Salik account balance.
- Recharge Online: You can top up your Salik account easily through the website, app, or even at petrol stations, so you always have enough balance.
- No Stopping: Salik makes driving faster and smoother since there’s no need to stop and pay manually.
- Helps Traffic Flow: The money collected is used to maintain roads and improve traffic management.
Think of Salik as a prepaid toll system that helps keep traffic moving without delays. If you want to learn more about Salik, visit www.arabwheels.ae
