Ford Mustang RTR Is Here, and It’s a Game-Changer

Ford Mustang RTR

Two Mustangs were highlighted at Ford‘s media preview for the 2025 Detroit Auto Show. In addition to the striped Mustang GTD, which Vaugh Gittin Jr. demonstrated with numerous donuts and slow-speed drifts, there was also the Ford Mustang RTR.

Not Just a Fancy Pony Car!

Yes, it is the RTR; however, this iteration is not an aftermarket enhancement from Gittin Jr.’s tuning firm. Instead, Ford will produce it at the Mustang plant in Michigan. Additionally, it does not feature a powerful V8 engine.

This new Ford Mustang RTR features an EcoBoost engine. Gittin Jr. claims it is “the most advanced, accessible, and fun Mustang EcoBoost possible.” It will be, eventually. The camo-clad car above is a prototype, and details about it are scarce.

Ford states that it incorporates components from the Mustang Dark Horse. It features substantial Brembo brakes and includes an anti-lag system for the turbocharger. Additionally, it will showcase RTR-specific elements, like a distinct grille.

Just What the Youth Wants

“If it involves driving fast or having fun, Ford is giving Mustang customers the tools to do it,” said Mustang Brand Manager Joe Bellino. “From Drift Brake to Line Lock to Mustang Unleashed and the new features coming to Ford Mustang RTR, Ford won’t stop innovating with Mustang.”

RTR has modified Mustangs and collaborated with Ford for numerous years. However, the new RTR marks a significant shift from just a simple agreement and a few donor cars. This iteration will be manufactured by Ford and available through Ford dealerships as a distinct Mustang trim.

Ready to Rock

This is the second time in history that a performance car has been jointly developed with an external partner and produced internally. “I’m pumped to have the opportunity to create what we believe is the most exciting turbocharged Mustang ever,” said RTR President and Founder Vaughn Gittin, Jr.

“This Ford Mustang RTR is pure accessible fun, with many enhancements, including Mustang Dark Horse components. Mustang EcoBoost’s near-perfect weight distribution and RTR’s signature styling are ready for drifting, drag racing, back-road cruising, or ripping around an autocross track. The new Mustang RTR is truly ready to rock.”

Ford has not announced when the final product will be released. Nonetheless, the prototype will be showcased at the 2025 Detroit Auto Show, which is scheduled for January 11 to 20. If you like reading such content, keep following the Arabwheels blog
