How to Pass Dubai Driving Test –  A Guide

Dubai driving test

In Dubai, driving a vehicle without a license is strictly prohibited and carries severe fines as per the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) traffic laws and regulations. Thus, in order for any inhabitant to drive safely, they must obtain a driver’s license. However, getting a Dubai driver’s license is not a cakewalk. Drivers must undergo a sequence of tests to be eligible for the license and pass the famous Dubai driving test. For many, it is challenging since the test passing rate in Dubai is 50%, and most do not get passed on the first attempt.

However, it is not impossible with proper preparation and confidence. There are 3 RTA driving tests to evaluate a driver’s proficiency in driving. To clear the tests, there are driving centers that help you prepare for the driving tests.

In this guide, we will walk you through the details of how to prepare for the stringent RTA driving license tests.

Dubai Driving Test – Different Steps

Here are different steps one has to follow to be eligible and pass Dubai driving test.

Eye Sight Test

While passing the three driving tests is crucial, getting your eyesight checked is also a part of the process. Firstly, you need to pass the eye test from an RTA-approved optician’s center to check whether it is safe for you to drive on the roads. This is the first action to decide your eligibility for a driving license.

Theory Tests

The foremost step is clearing the theory tests, including all the safety and road signs and traffic scenarios. Passing this test is challenging but possible with the help of driving schools. So, first, get yourself enrolled in an RTA-approved driving center and prepare yourself for the test. You can also take the idea of the test questions from the RTA driving test app and attempt the mock tests on it.

Practice is the key, so practice hard and attempt as many mock tests as possible before appearing in the actual theory test. The tests consist of 100 minimum questions, and the passing percentage is 65%. Moreover, the test is available in multiple choice questions with the language of your choice.

Road Tests

Before appearing in the practical tests, enroll yourself in the Dubai practical training center. The courses are available according to the proficiency level of the applicant. If the applicant has had a valid driving license in another country may take classes less than the beginners.

Motorcyclists must register for 20 hours of training as a first-timer and 10 hours of training if possessing a valid license from another country. Whereas car drivers who do not have driving licenses must take 40 hours of training, and the applicants who have held a valid license are permitted to take 20 classes as per RTA requirements.

Passing the road test alongside the instructor is nerve-wracking. Many applicants face fear and anxiety. However, they can overcome their fear by following all the traffic rules, maintaining vehicle control, and handling tricky situations while staying calm and confident. You must convince the instructor that you can drive safely on the busy roads.

Additionally, motorcyclists are required to wear proper safety equipment during the test.

Parking Tests

After driving on the road, next comes the parking test, which requires you to park your vehicle in different ways. The driving schools conduct two various parking tests that you have to complete. One is parallel parking, and the other is a reverse parking test prior to the RTA driving checklist.

In the parallel parking test, the applicant has to park the vehicle alongside other parked vehicles. While, reverse parking requires the applicant to park the back of the vehicle first without crashing into other vehicles. Parking the vehicle is tricky and requires a lot of practice. Therefore, enhance your parking skills and techniques in advance to increase your chances of passing the test.

Once the applicants have passed the above mentioned tests, they can obtain a Dubai driving license. However, if they fail to pass the driving tests on the first attempt, they are recommended to take extra courses and training from RTA-approved driving schools and reapply for the driving tests after polishing their driving skills.
