Dubai Police have taken a significant step towards improving road safety by setting up 13 new checkpoints across the Emirate to target illegal vehicle modifications. On Saturday, Dubai Police mentioned on social media that they are set to verify each vehicle for unnecessary modifications, such as altered exhaust systems or engine enhancements, that could cause noise pollution or compromise the safety of other drivers.
The Reason?
The recent rise in vehicles with excessive alterations, which disrupts the comfort of other drivers and residents, has led authorities to take stricter measures. The 13 checkpoints are strategically placed to monitor and verify vehicles, with officers inspecting cars and motorcycles for violations of traffic rules. Drivers found with illegal modifications will face steep penalties, with fines reaching up to Dh 10,000 and potential impounding of their vehicles.
The effects of this initiative were already seen last Friday when Dubai Police seized 23 cars and three motorcycles on Al Khawaneej road within 24 hours, all for illegal modifications. The director of the Traffic Police Department, Maj-Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, said, “24 traffic fines were issued against the violators, and the fine for releasing an impounded vehicle can reach up to Dh 10,000 each”.
They strongly advise drivers to avoid making any engine alterations or using equipment that generates loud noises, as these not only disturb residents but also pose safety risks.
