Bugatti Mistral Shatters Record of Fastest Open-Top Car Ever!
Bugatti Mistral successfully reached a top speed of 453 Km/h (282 mph) and shattered Hennessey Venom GT Spyder’s top speed record made in 2016
Bugatti is no stranger to breaking speed records. Let’s say you want a fast car; you consider a McLaren or a Lamborghini. If you want a luxurious car, you go for a Bentley or a Rolls Royce. When you want both the fastest and most luxurious car, you go for the Bugatti.
On Nov 9, 2024, Bugatti ran their Bugatti W16 Mistral at the Papenburg track. Driven by Andy Wallace, the open-top Bugatti Mistral successfully reached a top speed of 453 Km/h (282 mph) and shattered Hennessey Venom GT Spyder’s top speed record made in 2016.
Kudos to John Hennessey, as it took Bugatti 8 years to beat their Venom GT Spyder. Bugatti only produced 99 units of the Mistral. Each one of them was sold out before launch at a price of AED 19.5 Million.
Is Bugatti a Novice?
Nope. Bugatti has broken many top-speed records in the past. In 2005, their Bugatti Veyron 16.4 reached a top speed of 407 km/h. In 2010, Bugatti struck again with the Veyron Super Sport, clocking the meter at just over 431 km/h.
After that, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ set foot at the famous Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany. It became the fastest car in the world, reaching a top speed of 490 km/h. This justifies Bugatti’s role in the history of motorsports as it made the fastest road-legal roadster in the world.
Same as the Chiron?
While many people believe that the Bugatti Mistral is the same as the Bugatti Chiron, that is not the case. The Bugatti Mistral has an entirely different exterior design, explicitly engineered to be an open-top convertible that could reach unimaginable speeds. The engine is the same as the Bugatti Chiron, though.
What’s Under the Hood?
Under the Bugatti Mistral’s hood is a massive 8-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine from the Bugatti Chiron. This was the last time Bugatti used this flagship W16 in any car. This massive gas-guzzling W16 is responsible for putting out 1578 hp and 1600 Nm of torque.
The engine is coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that powers all of the wheels for maximum traction and stability at high speeds. The car weighs around 1977 kg and boasts an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 800 hp per metric ton.
