Dubai Steps Up Public Transit with 141 New Bus Shelters
141 Bus Shelters Installed—Dubai's Big Transit Upgrade by 2025!
Dubai RTA just announced the completion of 141 bus shelters in central locations. This is a step forward in their plan to reach 762 bus shelters by the end of 2025. This project aims to provide comfort and convenience to the general public.
Elevating The Living Standards
It is currently 40% complete and is expected to serve over 182 million riders annually upon completion.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer emphasized that the initiative demonstrates RTA’s commitment to enhancing Dubai’s public transportation system and elevating the living standards for both its residents and visitors.
“This project underscores RTA’s commitment to development initiatives that address urban expansion and population growth while ensuring safe, convenient, and premium mobility services for bus riders,” Al Tayer stated.
New Shelters
The newly installed shelters have been strategically placed to serve densely populated areas, ensuring they meet both current and future operational demands. Each shelter is designed to accommodate multiple bus routes, with some catering to more than ten routes.
Key Features of the Shelters
Key features of the shelters include shaded outdoor areas, advertising spaces, and advanced information screens displaying bus maps, schedules, and headway times. The shelters are classified into four categories based on daily usage:
Primary shelters: For locations with over 750 daily users.
Secondary shelters: For 250–750 daily users.
Basic shelters: For 100–250 daily users.
Drop-off/pick-up shelters: For fewer than 100 daily users.
Air-Conditioned Shelters
Air-conditioned shelters are also being installed in specific areas to enhance convenience, and efforts are underway to expedite the necessary infrastructure in these locations. The bus shelters are fully compliant with the Dubai Code for People of Determination and feature dedicated spaces for wheelchair users.
This aligns with the “My Community… A City for Everyone” initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The initiative aims to make Dubai a more inclusive city for people of determination.
Once fully operational, the bus shelters will cater to the growing demands of Dubai’s public transport network, enhancing the overall commuting experience and aligning with the city’s vision of a world-class, sustainable urban mobility system.
