Dubai’s Urban Revolution: The Future Is Just 20 Minutes Away!

0 23

Dubai traffic sucks. When you’re going home after an 8-hour shift, it’s pretty frustrating to survive this much traffic on a daily basis. Luckily, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has approved the Dubai Walk Master Plan. This means a city where everything is 20 minutes away.

On 7th December, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum approved the Dubai Master Walk Plan to revolutionize Dubai. RTA also plans to create pockets of nature for pedestrians, which is a big step forward in the right direction required for urban well-being.

This initiative will free you from paying AED 50 to ride a taxi to a nearby spot. It will also grant you the freedom to walk anywhere and everywhere within the city. This will be cost-efficient and promote a healthier lifestyle for the public.

The Master Plan

The initiative will create a network of 3,300 kilometers of pathways spanning across the city. These routes will feature:

  • 110 bridges and tunnels designed for pedestrians to cross safely.
  • 112 kilometers of picturesque waterfront trails ideal for leisurely walks by the water.
  • 124 kilometers of verdant trails nestled in nature.
  • 150 kilometers of paths in rural and mountainous areas for those seeking adventure.

Comfortable Walks Throughout the Year

Given Dubai’s warm weather, innovative cooling systems will be introduced in corridors and walkways between buildings. This will ensure that walking remains pleasant year-round and does not become a hassle like being stuck in miles of traffic.

Starting Point Of Dubai Walk

The undertaking starts with two separate sites, each providing a different walking experience:

  1. Museum Of The Future

The walk from the Museum of The Future features a 2-kilometer-long bridge and climate-controlled walkways, public spaces, and commercial zones. It will join landmarks like the Dubai World Trade Centre, Emirates Towers, and metro stations, highlighting the city’s modern landscape.

  1. Al Ras

The Al Ras track will feature a 15-kilometer walk through historic and waterfront areas. It will include green spaces and public displays and soak you in Dubai’s rich cultural history. Away from the noise and pollution, this will quickly become your favorite route to anywhere within the city.

A Walkable Dubai

The RTA also listed three categories of walkways that will be constructed: scenic leisure walkways, city connectivity pathways, and community walkways. Major pathways included in the master plan are;

  • Al Ittihad Street will connect Al Nahda and Al Mamzar.
  • Tripoli Street will be linking Al Warqa and Mirdif.
  • Dubai-Al Ain Road is going to be connecting Dubai Silicon Oasis and Dubailand.

Get Paid to Walk

Yes, you heard that right. A smart app will be launched by the authorities to encourage people to walk more. As you walk, the app will monitor your steps and grant you reward points in exchange. You can cash these reward points for discounts or credit in an e-wallet.

This is the sustainable and healthy environment you want your kids to grow up in, right? That has become possible all because of RTA and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
