Lamborghini’s journey towards an all-electric future has been a mix of ambition and uncertainty. Initially, an all-electric Lamborghini Urus was anticipated by the decade’s end. But by 2023, with EV demand cooling, Lamborghini began downplaying the timeline for an electric supercar.

Despite the uncertainty, one thing is clear—when Lamborghini’s first all-electric model arrives, it will be nothing short of groundbreaking.

According to a recent statement from a Volkswagen executive, Lamborghini’s future EV could boast up to 2,000 hp. This powerhouse might be the Lamborghini Lanzador, a high-riding, all-electric grand touring concept introduced about a year and a half ago.

EV Performance Redefined

Or it could be a model inspired by the Lanzador—–one that leans more towards a hypercar than an SUV. Regardless of the final design, one thing is sure—it will redefine power in the electric era. Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume revealed that this upcoming EV will be built on a platform developed by Porsche

An Italian Taycan?

This architecture will also support future models from Audi, Bentley, and Porsche. Explicitly designed for Lamborghini, the platform is engineered for a staggering 1,973 bhp and a cutting-edge 980-volt system. Interestingly, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has previously hinted that the Lanzador “ultra GT” would deliver at least one megawatt of power—around 1,340 hp.

The Benchmark of EV Performance

Although it has less horsepower than the 2,000-hp figure, it still signals an electrifying performance benchmark. The 980-volt setup isn’t just about raw power. Thanks to more than double the voltage of typical EVs today, it promises faster charging.

Conclusion

This higher voltage could also lead to better efficiency and extended range—key concerns for high-performance electric vehicles. Lamborghini aims to make a bold entrance into the EV segment. Unlike other manufacturers who integrate hybrid tech into their models, Lamborghini wants its electric debut to be unmistakably proud.

Hybrid technology often carries a sense of compromise despite enhancing performance. But an all-electric Lamborghini will leave no room for ambiguity. Blume summed it up best, promising, “It will be a typical Lamborghini—something very emotional.”
