After a long wait, Tesla officials announced that production of its new Tesla Roadster will finally start in 2025. Tesla Senior Executive Lars Moravy recently confirmed in an interview that Musk’s SpaceX will collaborate with Tesla to make the Tesla Roadster a reality.
Moravy Saved the Day
The prototype first dazzled us in 2017. Still, the production timeline encountered some bumps. This led to curious speculation from enthusiasts about whether we would ever see the Roadster on the streets. Thankfully, Moravy has reassured us all.
“Oh, it is definitely real!” Moravy shared with enthusiasm. “We’re working with SpaceX on that now. Cold gas thrusters are super cool, and they add a touch of magic to physics!”
Defying Gravity and Speed Limits
Yep! Cold gas thrusters are affordable yet reliable rocket engines that create thrust by expanding pressurized gas instead of combustion. This means the Tesla Roadster can accelerate from 0 to 60 in under a second—almost twice as fast as it was initially estimated in 2020!
Once the Roadster is finally available, it will become the most powerful EV, surpassing even the impressive Model S Plaid. It is also expected to exceed the Rimac Nevera, which is currently the fastest-accelerating EV. The Nevera has a 0-100 km/h time of 1.81 seconds.
Let’s see if Tesla is able to beat that.
The OG Tesla Roadster
This new vehicle pays homage to Tesla’s very first EV—the limited-production original Roadster that graced the roads between 2008 and 2012. Musk believes that the 2026 Roadster might not make a significant financial splash.
However, there’s no doubt it will certainly shake things up in the EV world, especially for competitors. Thanks for reading till the end.
