The Porsche Taycan GTS just broke the Guinness record for the longest continuous drift on ice by an EV. Jens Richter, the man behind the wheel, completed almost 132 laps or 17.503 km in just 46 minutes. Considering the extreme weather conditions, kudos to the Porsche Experience Team from Finland.

Just like that?

Well, not exactly. The Porsche Taycan GTS managed to break the world record in the second attempt. Jens Richter described the challenges as follows: “Under the extreme continuous load of the drifting Taycan, the ice track deteriorated faster than expected. We, therefore, had to abort the first attempt after around 11 kilometers.”

Instead of losing hope, Porsche Experience waited for it to get dark. At night, the temperature dropped, and the ice became firmer, resolving the issue they were facing before. Finally, Jens Richter was able to control the uninterrupted drift for 132 laps or 46 minutes with the throttle and steering interventions.

Fully Loaded

The Porsche Taycan GTS boasts over 690bhp during overboost and can slingshot from 0-100 km/h in 3.3 sec. For a luxury performance 4-door sedan, that is properly impressive. But that’s the kind of thing you expect from a Porsche.

When you buy a Toyota, you may not like the quality of the ride, but you know at least it’s reliable. Similarly, you may not like Porsche cars’ price tag or resale value. But you are confident that whether it’s an SUV, a 4-door sedan, or a coupe, as long as it’s Porsche, it’s fast.

Not the First One

This isn’t the first time the Porsche Taycan has made it to the headlines. It’s incredible to think that this is the fourth Guinness World Record for the Taycan! It proudly adds to its remarkable achievements, which include records for altitude change, speed in an enclosed building, and even continuous drifting on dry pavement. Truly impressive!
